Look with your heart and you’ll find the wonder of earth magic in every natural creation.
These incredible delicate flowers – the Chinese Lantern plant ( Physalis alkekeng) -papery bright-orange lantern pods that develop around the ripening fruit had me jumping with excitement yesterday.
The intricate detail in the almost lace-like form of the rotting lantern had me spellbound. Holding a full life cycle in my hand, I wondered at it all. So many lessons to be learned from nature. Just like the incredible life cycle of the Chinese lanterns, we too, are at different stages in our lives – yet ultimately will return to Mother Earth.
How much time do we have?
If we, as adults, cannot make time to see, hear, smell, touch, taste and appreciate the magical wonders gifted to us each and every day from our beautiful Mother Earth – how can we possibly expect our children to feel connected to nature; have an intimate relationship with the natural world?
“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.” – Rachel Carson
The Joy of Learning
Asking simple questions such as ‘who lives in this tree’, and exploring the abundant life forms existing on a single tree, expands the child’s mind and encourages exploration beyond the obvious.
Showing how a tall pine grows from a tiny pine seed explores the wonder of creation and shows how small things can become great.
How many seeds come from one pine cone; how many pine cones from one tree, explores the abundance of nature.
Discover, explore, capture the magic
One of the most exciting aspects of playing and learning in nature for a child, is the freedom to find and explore nature’s treasure and experience and capture the magic in their own unique way.
And every season gifts it’s own magic
